Sonntagsführung: From land back to sea: the evolution of vertebrates (for adults/in English). Life originated in water, but soon some creatures conquered the land, among others the vertebrates. However, they ventured back into the water many times. Examples include whales and dolphins among the mammals, or the extinct marine reptiles whose fossils we find in Switzerland today. Did these animals all undergo the same evolutionary changes when they returned to the water? A comparison of their skeletons provides clues.
