From emotion to note with Tamara Quadroni Basaric - MC, Giubiasco How does our perception of a film change when the music changes? This workshop takes participants on a fascinating journey to discover the power of sound in cinema. Thanks to the work of composition students at the Scuola di Musica del Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana, sequences from a feature film are transformed by original soundtracks recorded for string quartet. The scenes will first be shown without audio, to highlight the importance of silence, and then with different musical versions, so that participants can compare in real time how interest, emotional intensity and coherence between image and soundtrack vary. The experience is enriched by an introductory segment that tells the story of film music, from the early experiments of silent cinema to today's music, passing through the cult soundtracks that have made history. This is a unique opportunity to understand how inseparable the language of cinema is from that of music and to experience first-hand the magic of sound composition applied to images. The audience will be involved through questions, surveys, participation and a final debate that will highlight the complexity of the relationship between visual perception and sound experience.
